Salvation for the Unreached?Apologetics
Proverbs 24:12 “If you say, “But we knew nothing about this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay everyone according to what they have done?”
This is something I have always thought a lot about: What happens to people who die who never hear the gospel? What does God decide about them concerning their eternity?
There are verses that would suggest that just because people died without hearing the gospel, that alone cannot save them, since faith in Jesus is the ONLY way into salvation. This would act to drive us on to reach more and more people. Also, Romans 1:20 says that God’s invisible qualities can be seen throughout creation so that men are without excuse.
How does God judge an unreached heart?
However, I do not agree with the above, for different reasons really but primarily because of the above proverb. Whilst this is just a proverb and not necessarily a promise of God for all eternity, it is a picture of who God is and his nature. It shows us what God would do in that situation, how God would judge a soul that hasn’t had chance to respond to the good news of the gospel.
As I explained in God is a Melody; throughout scripture God reveals himself according to HOW he is. He is constantly revealing his nature, so that what we know of him is HOW he is. Therefore I think by studying his nature and especially through scriptures like these we can come to a decent conclusion of what we would expect God to do with people we never reached.
