Rise Up Against Sin

Ezra 10:4 “Rise up; this matter is in your hands. We will support you, so take courage and do it.”

After discovering the sin of the people, Ezra went about weeping, confessing and throwing himself down before the people. The people then came up to him and said “Do something about it, it’s in your hands, we will support you“.

Those are God’s words to us when we fail. Our failures are nothing more than our wrong choices. We cannot blame anyone but ourselves. There is no excuse, there is no get out, there is only ‘what next?’

It is our natural reaction to be like Ezra after sinning, to feel sorry for ourselves, to sit and somber, to mourn for our actions. Whilst there is a time for that, in which we must go through that somber place, we need to listen for God’s gentle voice telling us to “rise up, this matter is in your hands. I will support you, so take courage and do it!”.

Take up a counter attack against sin, cut off that part of your life that causes you to fail, confess it all out, have it out with the person in question. God wants you to bounce back against sin and put things in place so that it won’t happen again.

The process of failure is Temptation > Desire > Sin > Death. We all choose how far we travel along that process. Don’t let Death overwhelm you, don’t stay in it feeling sorry for yourself. Cling on to the life found in Jesus.

Its not about how often you fall, but how often you rise up and get back on your feet.
