Reading the TimesGuidance
Ecclesiastes 3:11 “He has made everything beautiful in its time…”
Ecclesiastes 3 says that there is a time for everything, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace. There is a time for everything because when that time or opportunity comes…that is what you should be doing!
There is not just a time for everything, but everything is beautiful in its time too. It means it can only prosper and flourish in the time that it has been allotted. Often we try and rush God or speed up life, we want to see things happen quicker and so force different opportunities and circumstances. The problem is that if it is before its time then it will not be beautiful…it will be ugly.
So really, the challenge of life is not knowing what to do or where to go, but simply reading the times!
Paul Scanlon explains this really well in his video GPS Guide, where he explains that God’s direction in life can often be like a GPS/Sat-Nav. When you are travelling a long distance on the motorway the Sat-Nav will remain quiet for long periods because you just have to keep going straight ahead. God is like that where he just wants you to keep doing what you are doing. He wants you keep doing the last instruction he gave you.
If we just occasionally stop and think about the ‘time’ that we are in, then I think we would get a pretty good idea of what God wants us to do. A time to stay where we are, a time to look for a new home, a time to move away, a time to settle down, a time to try something different, a time to risk and a time to save. God’s will for you is dependent on the time that you are in.
