Put Your Outdoor Work First

Proverbs 24:27 “Put your outdoor work in order and get your fields ready; after that, build your house”

Our lives should primarily be outward focused first, then inwardly focused. What I mean by this is that we should take the Bible’s instruction to put others before ourselves literally. We should look to the needs and welfare of others before we look to the needs and welfare of ourselves. We commit to serve others before we have ‘got it all together’.

1 Corinthians 3:9 “For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building”

The Bible says that you are both God’s worker and God’s building. You are building God’s kingdom by serving others, but God is also building you into a holy and righteous dwelling place. In one instance you are taking part in the project, in the other you are the project! The latter comes second however, God wants us to commit to serve and build his Kingdom before we are even partially complete.

My greatest transformation came through the service of others.

Often our lives are so self-centred that it’s only when we are in a good place that we focus our attention on others. You ever met those people? People who may only commit to serve once they have been served themselves. We often feel to inadequate and too unholy to do the jobs that God has called us to, but that is just something that we need to get over. God is quite happy using imperfect people to build his Kingdom, why should we raise issues with it!

Commit to build the lives of others before yourself. Put your outdoor work first.
