Feel The Fear

Trials

Ezra 3:3 “Despite their fear of the peoples around them, they built the altar on its foundation and sacrificed burnt offerings on it to the LORD…”

I am not a natural risk taker by nature. There are some things which I do naturally risk and others that I keep away from. But over the years I have actually taught myself to take risks. I have often forced myself to take a risk, even just for the sake of practising taking risks! I remember making a decision to never say no to something just because I was scared…for something that mattered at least.

Feel the Fear…and Do it Anyway!

One thing I knew is that if I truly wanted to live all out for God, I had to learn to look past my fears and my insecurities and risk it anyway. I used to practise taking risks so that when the time came to step up and be the man…I’d be there ready.

If you haven’t already I would encourage you to read “Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway” by Susan Jeffers. It is a great book that encourages us to face and feel our fears, but then take the risk anyway. A lot of our coping mechanisms are to pretend we don’t have fears, but that is not healthy. The challenge is to take the risk, and take it whilst scared.

Joshua 1:6 “Be strong and courageous…”

Courage is not the absence of fear, if it were then it would not be very brave would it! Courage is doing something despite your fear, just as the Israelites did. It means that your fear exists, it is still there and present in your life, but it does not hold you back. We all need to get to a place where our fear bears no control on the decisions we make as people.

Fear is just an emotion.
Courage is a decision of the will.
