Spiritual vs Worldly FruitDaily Thoughts
John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives…”
Interesting that Jesus is almost saying that there are two kinds of peace; peace that he leaves us, and His peace that he gives us. The first is how we choose to live according to the teaching he left us. The second is how we are enabled to live according to the gift of his presence.
What’s the difference between worldly fruit and spiritual fruit?
As Christians we think that the fruit in our lives (love, joy, peace etc.) sets us apart from non-believers. (“By their fruit you will recognize them” – Matt 7:20). But in reality, non-believers all over the world can display similar fruit in their own life. So what’s the difference?
John 15:4 “…No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me”
Spiritual fruit is totally independent of the world and it’s effects on us.
Worldly fruit is manufactured by man and ultimately is subject to the influences of the world. A person can work really hard to achieve a sense of peace, even from what Jesus taught. But as soon as a crisis comes along that peace disappears, because the fruit is grown on the worldly vine, not the spiritual vine. But spiritual fruit is:
Forgiveness for what the world says is unforgivable.
Everlasting peace in the face of a crisis.
Unconditional love for those that hate you.
Fulfilling joy during defeat and disappointment.
