Sin Ingredient 2/3 – PresenceDaily Thoughts
John 13:21 “After he had said this, Jesus was troubled in spirit and testified, “I tell you the truth, one of you is going to betray me.”
The last supper reveals three of the devil’s tactics for tempting man and leading him astray. They are the ingredients necessary for sin, the conditions required for our failure.
Sin Ingredient 2/3 – Presence
Why was Jesus troubled in his spirit? Because Satan was present. It says shortly afterwards that Satan entered Judas, showing that he was close by, waiting to take control of him. Another ingredient for our sin is the presence of evil around us.
A lot of our failures can be sourced to very practical sources, perhaps hunger, weariness, not getting enough sleep, feeling agitated, disappointment etc. There come the days when we just feel down, negative and pessimistic, or as Jesus was; troubled in spirit. Satan capitalizes on these moments when we feel troubled, in fact he most likely orchestrates them. These points are when we are tired and off guard, when we are easy to be swayed into temptation.
A lot of the time I can feel very troubled in my spirit and I don’t know why. It may be because the presence of evil is near, darkening my day and clouding my sensitivity to the spirit. Watch out for these moments and when you feel troubled, seek out the presence of God within. Let the holy spirit define your mood and emotions, not the darkness of your day.
