Sin Ingredient 1/3 – PromptDaily Thoughts
John 13:2 “The evening meal was being served, and the devil had already prompted Judas Iscariot, son of Simon, to betray Jesus”
The last supper reveals three of the devils tactics for tempting man and leading him astray. They are the ingredients necessary for sin, the conditions required for our failure.
Ingredient #1 – Prompt
In the Greek this word ‘prompt’ means to put in, cast on or throw. There is no control involved, but only a suggestion and prompt of something to do. Like throwing something at a wall to see how much sticks, the devil prompts by throwing thoughts, feelings and situations our way to tempt us.
The way to combat these prompts & temptations is not by ignoring them and pretending they are not there, which is what we often do! But by consciously setting ourselves against them, we capture them and make them obedient to Christ. This is described as some as ‘bouncing the eyes’, by recognizing the prompt or temptation we actively choose to disregard it, push it to the side or look away. The moment that prompt arrives in our head, we recognize it and deal with it appropriately.
2 Corinthians 10:5 “…we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ”
