Reinstating Your NameDaily Thoughts
2 Samuel 12:27-28 “Joab then sent messengers to David, saying, “I have fought against Rabbah and taken its water supply. Now muster the rest of the troops and besiege the city and capture it. Otherwise I will take the city, and it will be named after me”
This scripture comes straight after the episode of David and Bathsheba, in fact it is happening at the very same time. David had just committed the biggest mistake of his entire life, he had rebelled against God and committed atrocities against his own people. Funny then that the very first event following this episode is a chance for David to reinstate his name over an enemy city.
There have been countless times in my life where straight after failing God; he has given me opportunities to represent him and lead others. It became such a common pattern in my life that I could predict it. I was overwhelmed by his grace, that he would seek to reinstate me and honor me in light of my sin and shame.
This is how God works in our life, when we mess up and fail he lifts us up in the presence of others and reinstates our name…what amazing grace! That is exactly what Jesus did to Peter; following his denial of Jesus.
John 13:38 “…I tell you the truth, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times!” John 21:15-17 “Feed my lambs…Take care of my sheep…Feed my sheep”
For each of the three denials, Jesus gave Peter an opportunity to represent and serve him. God reinstated David. God reinstated Peter. God is seeking to reinstate you.
