Pursuing God’s PresenceDaily Thoughts
Matthew 25:24 “Leave there your gift before the altar, and go your way; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift”
We often get so obsessed with pursuing God’s presence, with getting more of him, when perhaps pursuing more of his presence isn’t the point? We seem to have this idea that if we capture God’s presence, we would be transformed and our obedience would follow, however I think it’s the opposite way around!
God’s presence follows your obedience
We can often try to summon God’s presence like Saul summoning Samuel back from the dead. Instead of trying to obey and be disciplined we crank on some worship music, say a little prayer and expect God to show up and transform us.
God will not do for you what you can do for yourself.
God will not answer what you can answer yourself.
God will not decide what you can decide yourself.
Scripture says that you are a Temple of the Holy Spirit. The way to keep a temple in order is to keep it clear of any sin, not to fill it with the presence of God. In fact, God’s presence would come when the temple was clean. We need to start functioning as temples, instead of straining after God’s presence we need to concentrate on ridding sin from our lives. Our focus should be on consecrating our hearts and minds, then his presence will follow.
