Pray in the SpiritDaily Thoughts
Ephesians 6:18 “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests…”
1 Thessalonians 5:23 says we are body, soul and spirit. That is the very makeup of our beings. We live and act in all 3 of these everyday. The problem is, that when we come to God we often come in the body and the soul, but not necessarily the spirit. Our spirit becomes hidden underneath the distractions of the body and the soul.
True intimacy with God is when we are living from our spirit, when it takes charge of our soul and body. But because this is not our ‘natural’ zone to live in, we must regularly let our spirit breath, by removing the burdens of the body and the soul.
Intimacy with God is not about getting more, it’s about getting rid
We are instructed to pray in the spirit, not the body or the soul. I would suggest that most of our prayer lives mainly focus around the soul region though.
Body Prayer – Mindlessly reciting the Lord’s prayer with not much thought or focus
Soul Prayer – Communicating to God the thoughts and feelings of our hearts and minds
Spirit Prayer – Being prompted and led to pray into specific areas and people
Praying in the spirit is when we truly connect with God, because we have disregarded the burdens our heart and mind. We become 100% led by our spirit, not by our thoughts, feelings and emotions. The only way I can describe it by is waiting in prayer, searching for and meditating on God’s presence, and responding to his prompting in your spirit.
