People’s PerceptionsChurch & Relationships
Numbers 13:33 “…We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them”
These men assumed how others would perceive them based on their perception of themselves. I might instantly jump to the thought that this is wrong behavior…but actually I reckon they were spot on!
I find that we are pretty good at estimating what others think about us.
When we really take time to reflect on it with an open heart, I reckon we could get a pretty good picture of what most people perceive about us. We pick it up from small comments, hints here and there and specific words of encouragement/criticism.
Proverbs 23:7 “For as he thinks [calculates/reckons] within himself, so he is…”
We may be blind to some people’s perceptions, if we have unconsciously offended them, but to the ‘majority’ perhaps we are pretty good at calculating and reckoning their overall perspective.
If we know how we are perceived by others; we can be sensitive to their opinions to promote a positive relationship.
I know some may perceive that I have ‘got it all together’, so I try to openly share my weaknesses and failings, to show I haven’t! Others may perceive me as too mature/serious, so I often find myself being very ‘boyish’ to break that perspective.
