Daniel 2:21 “He changes times and seasons; he sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning”
Surely you get wisdom to be wise, and knowledge to be discerning…not the other way around? But God is a multiplier, he adds wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.
Me and my good friend John Hutton always seem to debate between pursuing practical and spiritual principles. I am ultra-practical. John is super-spiritual. Which is greater? Well the obvious answer is neither…they are both vital for a healthy christian life, but there is significance in the order of them.
Daniel 1 & 2 shows this classic balance between the practical and spiritual, the natural and supernatural, the ordinary and extra-ordinary. It shows that as Daniel and his friends did what they could do in the ordinary; God showed up for them in the extraordinary.
Ordinary #1: They were already healthy, showed aptitude, well informed and quick to understand (Dan 1:4)
Extraordinary #1: God gave them knowledge and understanding of all kinds of learning (Dan 1:17)
Ordinary #2: They ate only vegetables and drank only water for their diet (Dan 1:12)
Extraordinary #2: God gave Daniel understanding into the King’s dreams (Dan 1:19)
When we are faithful in the practical, the ordinary and the natural; God will multiply that into the spiritual, the extraordinary and the supernatural.
