Only Fear GodDaily Thoughts
Exodus 4:19 “Now the LORD had said to Moses in Midian, “Go back to Egypt, for all those who wanted to kill you are dead”
The strange thing is that a few verse on from this one, God tries to kill Moses (v24). He is telling him to not be afraid in one, but trying to kill him in the other! Its like God has a personality change in a split second. It goes to show that we should only fear God and nothing else. God was teaching Moses to not be afraid, to not fear anything…but to fear God!
“Don’t fear anything…but me” – God
God will not let anything overcome us, but he will overcome us. God will not let anything bear us down, but he will bear us down. God will not let anything judge us, but he will judge us. There is an unwritten rule that only a parent is really allowed to discipline their children. God as our Father won’t let anything discipline us or rebuke us, but instead he will do the disciplining and the rebuking.
Psalm 23:4″I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
This is what David expresses in his most famous Psalm, God’s rebuking and disciplining (via his rod & staff) is a comfort to him. Because ultimately he knows that he is safe in the hands of God, even if he does find correction and discipline. A shepherd would use his rod to smack the sheep and pull them back into the group, to pull them back into safety. Perhaps you need a fresh revelation of God’s sovereignty today. Perhaps you need a fresh fear for God.
