False Philosophies #1 – PolitenessDaily Thoughts
Colossians 2:8 “See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ”
Our ‘false philosophies’ are actually built upon very normal things, ideologies that we taught and raised with, but often Jesus lived very differently…
Stop being so polite.
Reading through the gospels you would probably have to agree that Jesus certainly wasn’t very polite. This doesn’t mean that he wasn’t loving, because they are actually very different things. Jesus challenged sin very boldly and was not afraid to share the raw truth.
I’m not saying that we should never be polite, but we should stop being over-polite! The problem with being so polite is that it actually restricts a deeper relationship. God wants us to have relationships that are raw, truthful and challenging…not polite.
Polite relationships are small-talk only. Polite relationships are shallow. Polite relationships aren’t really relationships at all, yet we often maintain this false philosophy among long-term friends.
