#Calling – Responding RightCalling
Exodus 3:4 “When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am.”
When God called each of them, both Moses and Samuel replied “Here I am” to God. The Hebrew meaning of this phrase is something like: lo! behold!.
Lo!; meaning certainly, surely, surprise and Behold!; meaning to see me, use me, I submit.
Responding to God requires both Surety and Submission.
When God called them, they were both sure that it was God (possibly except for Samuel who first thought it was Eli), but regardless they were both sure they heard a voice. Secondly they both submitted themselves straight away, not running away or hiding.
This is often the opposite of what we do when we feel God’s prompting. We first of all doubt, thinking it was just our own imagination, our own emotions or tricks of the mind. We certainly don’t always respond with surety.
Secondly, we often take so long to respond, submit and obey God’s command. We are so laid back with it, almost as if it doesn’t really matter what we do. We certainly don’t always have the submission that Moses and Samuel did.
