Living in God’s Above and Beyond


wpid-DAILY-THOUGHT.jpgEphesians 3:20-21 “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”

These last couple of months have been a time of great blessing for me. Me and Claire have got married and moved into our apartment in Lancaster, and more recently I have been plowing the internet for the best car deals as we want to buy a new car soon.

With all of these tremendous blessings in my life which I am extremely grateful and thankful for, I have noticed certain thoughts running through my mind. They are the thoughts and expressions which arise in all of us when someone tries to show great generosity to us. Either by offering to help, giving us money or buying us a gift we think we don’t deserve we always respond by politely rejecting it. We say “You shouldn’t have… It’s too much… I can’t accept it… I don’t deserve it”. We all say these things from time to time, but these particular thoughts have been running through my mind as I struggle to accept God’s above and beyond blessing on my life. How absurd! That we would actually struggle with accepting God’s blessing in our life, never-mind the trials he sends our way.

Perhaps because I already felt tremendously blessed in the first place, and that his ‘above and beyond’…’extra mile’…’just because he can’ blessing has just overwhelmed me…

To get married young was an incredible blessing…
To get married where and how we did was above and beyond!

To have our own place to live and call home is a great blessing…
To have the lovely apartment that we have is above and beyond!

To have and own our car is a fantastic blessing…
To be able to buy a new car is above and beyond!

I do not wish to brag or boast about the current state of my life, but to display God’s amazing love and generosity to all. It is true that I do not deserve it, but then when did any of us deserve anything? But God in his mercy and grace can pour out blessing anyway, above and beyond our dreams and expectations, despite all of fears and failures.

The only thing we have to do is be willing to receive it. Are you struggling to receive God’s blessing in your life? Do you love yourself enough to accept it?
