What is this glorious freedom we have as believers?
Is it more than just salvation and the forgiveness of our sins?

There has always been something about freedom that I never really got. I always asked, “there must be more to it than this…..I don’t feel that free!”
Because even though our sins have been paid for, we still live with the effects of our sin and Gods discipline.
To be honest, I think sometimes as Christians we feel more enclosed and trapped in law than feeling free!

But Galatians 5v1 says “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free”

Notice there is 2 acts of freedom.
1. Christ has set us free from sin, from death and from hell.
What for?
2. For freedom!
So there is more to freedom than just salvation, but what?

The way to look at this is to see what we’ve been set free from, and what we’ve been set free to! What does the Christian life hold vs the non-Christian life?

Sometimes its hard to make this clear distinction because we can often live our lives for both God and ourselves. We make a mix of our worldly life and our godly life.
The fact is, the Christian life is totally different to a worldly life, it’s a total transformation!
Just think about it, what does a worldly life mean?
Living totally for yourselves, making your life a success, make as much money as possible, enjoy this life before its over and make a name for yourself!

Now what does a godly life comprise of?
Living totally for God, making Jesus a success, give out as much love as possible, sacrifice life to God before its over and make Gods name greater!

It really is such a radical transformation, although we may not see it at first!
We sometimes only live partially for God and so mix up these 2 lives. This is compromising on our freedom, who would ever choose a worldly life over a godly life?

How we sometimes live:

We half live for ourselves and half for God. Where these 2 lives cross is where there is conflict. Sin is where we still want to live for ourselves and our desires, yet whilst we are living for God as well.

How we should live:

This is the place of complete freedom!
We all need to come to this place where we realise its ALL about God! We were created to just worship God, nothing else!
True freedom is when we are living totally for God, not binding ourselves any longer to the ways of this world. God is not part of your life like a building block, he is your life!
When we find this isolation in God, away from the world, we find complete satisfaction, fulfilment amazing joy and peace as we live in Gods purpose!

2 Corinthians 5v15-17
”And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
So from now on we regard no-one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer.
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has gone, the new has come!”
